Towing in Salt Lake City & South Salt Lake

Broken down, in an accident, or a car that won't start? Lucas Auto Service & Towing dispatches from 3726 S Secord St in South Salt Lake — and because we're also a full repair shop, one call can cover both the tow and the fix. Flat price quoted before the truck rolls. Se habla español.

One Call, Tow and Repair

Most towing companies drop your car at a shop and drive away. We are the shop. When we tow your vehicle to 3726 S Secord St, the same people who picked it up can diagnose it, quote it, and repair it — so you're not paying for a tow, then arranging a second tow, then waiting on a mechanic who's never seen the car.

That's been the setup since we opened in 2015, and it's the reason a lot of our towing customers become repair customers. You get one phone number, one price conversation, and one place to pick your car up.

When to Call a Tow Truck

If you're not sure whether you need a tow or just roadside help, call and describe what happened — sometimes we can talk you through it and save you the tow entirely. Call us when:

  • The engine won't start and a jump doesn't bring it back
  • You've been in an accident and the vehicle isn't safe to drive
  • The car overheated, is smoking, or is leaking fluid onto the road
  • The brake pedal feels soft, goes to the floor, or the car pulls hard when you stop
  • The transmission won't engage a gear, or the car moves but won't hold a gear
  • A wheel, tire, or suspension component is damaged
  • The check engine light is flashing — not just on

Flashing check engine light vs. steady: a steady light usually means get it looked at soon. A flashing light means stop driving — you're likely dumping raw fuel into the catalytic converter, and a small repair can turn into a very expensive one. That's a tow, not a drive.

What We Tow

  • Cars, trucks, SUVs, minivans, and work vans
  • Non-running and won't-start vehicles
  • Accident and collision vehicles
  • Lowered and low-clearance cars
  • All-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles
  • Classic and project cars
  • Vehicles being moved between a home, a shop, or a storage unit

How Our Towing Pricing Works

We don't post a fake starting price just to get you on the phone. A tow price comes down to two things: how far the vehicle has to travel, and what condition it's in — does it roll, does it steer, is it all-wheel drive, can it be driven onto the truck or does it need to be winched.

So we do it the straightforward way. You tell us where the car is, where it's going, and what happened. We quote a flat price on the phone. That's the price you pay. One of our reviews puts it better than we can: “they gave me the price upfront. Very reasonable.” That's the whole policy.

Roadside Assistance — When You Don't Need a Full Tow

Plenty of calls don't need a truck at all. If it's one of these, say so when you call and we'll send the right help instead of the most expensive help:

  • Jump starts — dead battery, lights left on, car sat too long
  • Flat tire changes — if you have a usable spare
  • Fuel delivery — ran out of gas
  • Lockout service — keys locked in the car

If your battery keeps dying, bring the car in afterward. A battery that goes flat twice is usually a charging-system or parasitic-draw problem rather than a bad battery — and that's something we can actually test in the shop.

What to Do While You Wait

Once you've called, a couple of minutes of setup makes the pickup faster and safer:

  • Get the vehicle as far off the travel lane as you safely can, and turn your hazards on
  • On I-15, I-80, I-215, or State Street, stay in the vehicle with your seatbelt on unless there's a fire or a fuel smell
  • Have your keys ready — including the wheel-lock key if your car has one
  • Give us a cross street or mile marker, not just “near 4500 South”
  • Take valuables and anything you'll need out of the car before it leaves

Where We Tow

We dispatch out of South Salt Lake, which puts us near the middle of the valley — the I-15, I-80, and I-215 corridors, State Street, Redwood Road, and 3300 South are all short runs for us. Areas we cover regularly:

South Salt Lake
Salt Lake City
Murray
West Valley City
Taylorsville
Millcreek
Kearns
Holladay

Not on the list? Call anyway — if we can't get to you, we'll tell you straight rather than leave you waiting.

Get a Tow Quote

Call (801) 864-1160 with three things ready: where the vehicle is, where it needs to go, and what happened. That's all we need to give you a flat price. Prefer to type it out? Use the service request form and we'll call you back.

Towing Questions

Straight answers before you call.

How much does a tow cost in Salt Lake City?

The price depends on how far the vehicle has to go and what kind of vehicle it is. We quote a flat price on the phone before the truck leaves, and the number we give you up front is the number you pay. Call (801) 864-1160 for a quote.

How fast can you get to me?

Most calls inside the Salt Lake Valley are reached quickly — customers regularly tell us we showed up in 15 to 20 minutes. Exact timing depends on where you are, traffic, and how many trucks are already out. We give you a realistic window when you call, not a number we can't keep.

What are your towing hours?

Shop and tow dispatch run Mon–Fri 8 AM–5 PM and Saturday 8 AM–3 PM. We're closed Sunday. Call (801) 864-1160 to check availability.

Can you tow my car to your shop and fix it?

Yes — and it's usually the cheapest way to handle a breakdown. We're a full repair shop as well as a tow company, so one call covers the tow and the repair. See everything we work on →

Do I need to be with the vehicle?

It helps, but it isn't always required. If you can't be there, we'll arrange access and keys with you over the phone before the driver heads out.

Will towing damage my car?

Not when it's done right. We hook up carefully and pick the method that suits your vehicle — including low-clearance, all-wheel-drive, and non-running cars. Our reviews mention drivers being careful not to cause damage, and we take that seriously.

Do you tow motorcycles or large trucks?

Call and describe the vehicle. We handle cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans routinely. For anything unusual, tell us the make, model, and whether it rolls and steers, and we'll tell you straight whether we're the right truck for the job.
